Zahidi tests positive for Covid-19, admitted to Hospital Sungai Buloh

Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin (pix) has been confirmed positive for Covid-19 based on test results received this morning. A statement issued by his office said Zahidi underwent Covid-19 screening test on returning to Kuala Lumpur from Penang on Monday. Zahidi has been taken to Hospital Sungai Buloh for further treatment in accordance with guidelines set by the Health Ministry. “Zahidi is now in stable condition and apologises for any inconvenience caused. He also prays that Allah SWT will make it easier for all who are involved,” the statement said. It said Zahidi had taken another Covid-19 test on Dec 25 last year which had turned out negative.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin has become the latest in a string of Cabinet members to test positive for Covid-19. In a statement today, the Home Ministry revealed that Hamzah had been screened yesterday, and early this morning the Health Ministry released that he had tested positive for the virus. “Therefore, Hamzah will be undergoing a quarantine period subject to Health Ministry’s guidelines and its close monitoring,” read the statement. The statement also asked all those who came into close contact with Hamzah from January 8 until 11 to present themselves to a district health office for Covid-19 screening.

Popular Bangsar supermarket closes for sanitisation after staff test positive for Covid-19

Teng Mini Market Centre (TMC), a popular supermarket in Bangsar here will be shut today for Covid-19 sanitisation. In a Facebook post today, TMC’s management said the store will be closed for 24 hours after two of its workers tested positive for Covid-19. It added that contact tracing will be carried out by the Health Ministry.

Cabinet to get tested for Covid-19 after minister Mustapa found positive

Federal ministers are to be screened for Covid-19 after Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed tested positive for the virus on Sunday, a government official told Malay Mail today. The official who spoke on condition of anonymity said swab tests have started in Putrajaya. “Yes. Yes. It is confirmed. It is happening now in Putrajaya,” the official said when contacted without disclosing who or how many ministers were involved. Mustapa, who is minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of economic affairs, tested positive for Covid-19 during a screening after arriving in Kota Baru, Kelantan from Kuala Lumpur two days ago.

Five MSN officials tested positive for Covid-19

Five National Sports Council (MSN) officials tested positive for COVID-19 through screening test results obtained today. Its director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said that they were among 75 officials and personnel who underwent screening tests on Tuesday, after seven athletes and an official tested positive during the recent re-registration process for athletes. “Three of them were involved during the process of handling the athletes’ registration and two more are likely to have got infected from outside,” he said in a statement today.

Putrajaya releases SOP to curb Covid-19 risks at flood relief centres

The government today announced standard operating procedures (SOPs) to minimise the risk of Covid-19 infections due to cramped conditions at temporary relief centres (PPS) housing flood evacuees. During a press conference today, Senior Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this included testing all evacuees for Covid-19 and for them to be housed in a way that allowed physical distancing. “All PPS are to be opened in the same Covid-19 zone or the same movement control order (MCO) area. Or if unavoidable, then it can be opened in a nearby zone,” he said.

No directive for Covid-10 screening for maids

There has been no directive for maids to undergo Covid-19 screening, several maid agencies told theSun yesterday. The Human Resource Ministry on Jan 1 warned employers who do not send their foreign workers for screening that they can be fined RM1,000 or risk being jailed up to six months. A spokesman for a maid agency in Kuala Lumpur said they have not received any directive regarding maids. She however said they do not see a need for maids to undergo screening if they are staying with their employers.

No ‘cluster’ in Berjaya Times Square

The management of Berjaya Times Square Hotel has clarified that the “Kluster Slot Berjaya” announced by Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on Dec 30 is not in reference to its hotel or the Berjaya Times Square shopping mall. “Berjaya Times Square is not in the affected area and will remain open to guests with the highest standards of hygiene and regular deep sanitization as specified by theHealth Ministry,” said Berjaya Times Square Hotel manager May Cheong@Nurul Hidayah. Since the Covid-19 outbreak, Berjaya Hotels and Resorts has implemented stringent preventive measures across all their hotels and resorts, including providing separate entry and exit points for guests, Cheong said.

K-One Technology’s unit gets approval for nasal swab manufacturing, supply

K-One Technology Bhd’s (K-One) wholly-owned subsidiary, K-One MediTech Sdn Bhd, has received the approval from Medical Device Authority of Malaysia (MDA) to manufacture and supply five additional variants of nasal swabs for use in Covid-19 testing. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, K-One said this is in addition to an earlier approval it had obtained with regards to its specific nasal swab, which was granted by the MDA on Sept 3, 2020.

11 new clusters today
