Ten people have been slapped with fines of RM1,000 each for violating the Covid-19 movement control order (MCO) here.
District police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamad said three were given compounds after they were stopped at a roadblock in Lukut past midnight and told policemen that they were out to buy cigarettes.
"Seven others were fined after they gathered at a field in Taman PD Utama to play football," he said, adding that the fines were issued over the past two days (Jan 27 and 28).
The offenders, all locals, were aged from 20 to 50.
The Negri Sembilan Islamic Affairs Department has rubbished claims that worshippers who turned up at a mosque here to perform Friday prayers had failed to follow Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP).
State director Datuk Mohd Zaidi Ramli said the number of worshippers who had turned up at Masjid At-Taqwa in Paroi numbered less than 900 although the mosque could accommodate 3,000 people.
He said based on the SOP set by the state authorities, the mosque was allowed to take in 1,200 worshippers for Friday prayers.
